Dr Gareth Thomas – Sports Doctor
Dr Thomas completed his Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery in 1986. He obtained his Masters of Sports Medicine in 2008 and is a fellow and Secretary of Sports Doctors Australia.
He is a member of Sports Medicine Australia.
He has published works on “Clinical Sports Medicine Practice in Rural Australia” also composed an article on “Distance Running and Risk of Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis”
Dr Thomas has been the team doctor for North Ballarat VFL Club, Boxing Australia, Dubbo Kangaroos Rugby Club. He has been a consultant for Victorian Institute of Sport, NSW Institute of Sport, Dubbo Rhinos Rugby Club and Dubbo Macquarie Rugby League Club.
He has been a lecturer for Sydney University Medical School Rural Medical School Dubbo and Orange.
Dr Thomas has presented at many conferences including Grand Rounds Dubbo Base, GWAHS Physiotherapy Conference 2008 and also also presented at Sports Medicine Australia Emergency Care Courses.
Dr Gareth Thomas grew up in country NSW, Broken Hill and Dubbo.
He wife is an Art Teacher and they have two sons, one at University and the other a Lawyer in Sydney.
Dr Thomas loves sport and is a member of the Orange runners club. He has successfully participated in 9 marathons and many half marathons. He is a long distance runner and ex rep for cricket. He also enjoys playing golf.
He loves music of all description but especially modern jazz, rock and classical. He also enjoys playing the guitar.
His favourite leisure activities are cryptic crosswords (the really hard ones) and he also loves reading.
His passion for sport of all kinds makes his field of medicine so exciting for him.
